As you drive in to town a sign welcomes you to “The Denver of the East.” Located on the west side of Lake Norman, Denver is the destination for people looking for the Lake Lifestyle without the hustle and bustle of Mecklenburg County. But don’t let the location fool you. Downtown Charlotte is only 25 miles away.
Originally settled in the 1740’s, the area originally incorporated as “Dry Pond” and later renamed to Denver, was a crossing point for the Catawba River. The names Sherill’s Ford and Beattie’s Ford are still used in the region today.
Denver is home to Rock Springs Campground. A well-known destination for revivals and other gatherings that have been going on from as far back as 1830. The community still comes together today for events such as the Strawberry Festival, Denver Days, and a weekly farmers market.
Recently, the food scene in Denver has seen growth as a number of new restaurants have taken root in the community. Including some that offer service for boaters on the lake.
The Denver area is part of the Lincoln County School Board. There are 2 elementary schools, a middle school, and high school that serve the Denver area. As well as a charter school with a local campus that serves all 3 age groups.
Primarily, Denver is a bedroom community for the nearby Charlotte market as well as the neighboring Lake Norman communities of Mooresville, Davidson, Cornelius, and Huntersville. However, the growing popularity of the area has resulted in many small businesses opening up shop in the area.
